Classification of Occupations 08 (STYRK-08)

The classification is based on ILO's International Standard for Classification of Occupations 2008 - ISCO-08. The Norwegian version of the classification is called STYRK-08. This classification replaces the former classification STYRK, which was based on ISCO-88(COM). Occupations are characterised by similarities in tasks, level of competence and specialisation. STYRK-08 is prepared for use in official statistics, and will also be a valuable tool within employment service and career guidance. STYRK-08 will be used in official statistics for 2011, and also in routines for employment service. Respondents reporting occupations for the Register of employees will, however, still use codes from STYRK (7 digits), and these will be encoded by Statistics Norway before publishing. The principles of classification are based on STYRK, but to improve international comparability, similarity in tasks are given priority, independent of the educational claims defined by different countries. This e.g. means that all nurses and teachers are included in one category (2 Professionals). The classification has also been extended with several occupations within the ICT sector, while there are fewer occupations within the crafts and operators sector.
This version contains 582 codes organized into 4 levels.
