ISCED97 is organized according to level and field of education in the same way as the Norwegian Standard Classification of Education. The classification has the following structure: 1st digit: Level 2nd digit: Broad field of education 3rd digit: Narrow field of education 4th digit: Detailed field of education In addition, ISCED97 has four complementary dimensions: Destination, Orientation, Duration and National degree structure. These are used only for certain levels of education. The complementary Dimensions are classified under Variants.
