Classification of country codes (alpha-3)

Country codes (alpha-3) are three-letter codes (e.g. NOR = Norway, SWE = Sweden) defined and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to represent countries, dependent territories, and special geographical areas. The standard is based on the ISO 3166-1 code list and has been adapted to Statistics Norway’s needs. The list contains the special codes XUK and XXX for unknown citizenship and stateless citizenship, respectively. Changes, footnotes, etc. are specified with a code reference in the following order (alpha-2, alpha-3, num-3, SSB-3), for example Norway (NO, NOR, 578, 000).
