Classification of dioceses
A diocese is the area a bishop leads. Diocese is our largest ecclesiastical unit and consists of entire parishes. Borders of dioceses do not completely match the county structure, see separate notes under each diocese. Since 1983, there have been eleven dioceses in Norway. They have a two-digit numerical code from 01 to 11. If the code is higher than 11, it is a fictitious historical code.
