The country is divided into police districts which consist of a certain number of municipalities. In some cases a police district may cross county boundaries.

As of 1 January 2016 the country is divided into 12 police districts which consist of a certain number of municipalities. In some cases a police district may cross county boundaries. The number of police districts was reduced from 27 to 12.
